Hepatitis C is a major public health problem worldwide, with a prevalence of 12.6% in the United States and 14.1% in Europe. Approximately 40-60% of patients will experience a recurrence of their Hepatitis C infection in their lifetime. The treatment of Hepatitis C infection is based on the presence of viral hepatitis C virus (HCV) as the primary virus, as well as on the presence of active infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV).
Hepatitis C can cause complications such as liver damage and cardiovascular disease. In addition, the disease can lead to renal dysfunction and bone loss. HBV infection can also cause severe and irreversible kidney damage.
Although there is no cure for Hepatitis C, the treatment of HBV infection includes the addition of antiviral medications to the standard therapy. This therapy includes the use of a combination of famciclovir and aciclovir.
Hepatitis C can be spread to other organs through direct or indirect infections, as well as through direct or indirect spread through sexual intercourse.
As with other HBV infections, patients should be screened for the presence of HBV and for the presence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), as well as other viruses.
Patients infected with HBV should receive the drug as soon as possible following initial treatment with this medication.
For the treatment of HIV infection, the treatment of HBV infection should be taken as per the prescription provided by the patient. The dose should be lowered or kept as low as possible when the patient is treated with a suppressive medication.
If the patient is HIV-positive and has no alternative treatment available, the patient should receive only the suppressive medication prescribed by the doctor.
Hepatitis C can be transmitted by sexual contact. Therefore, sexual intercourse with the patient is not recommended.
The treatment with HBV infection includes the addition of the following medications: famciclovir, aciclovir, and the hepatitis B vaccine. Famciclovir should be taken at the lowest dose for the first 6 months of treatment to reduce the likelihood of complications and to prevent the recurrence of infection.
Hepatitis B vaccine is given after a hepatitis B test is negative, as it is not known whether it is associated with the infection. However, the vaccine should be given at the lowest dose for the first 6 months of treatment to prevent a recurrence.
